New beginnings and scared sh*tless
I just moved to a new place, and I'm scared shitless. This is supposed to be my restart, but it turns out I might not have the job I thought I had. My anxiety is through the roof, and I'm not sure how or where I'm supposed to go from here. I want to be busy, but I have nothing to do. What am I going to do???
I wrote the paragraph above thirteen days ago. I still haven't started my new job, although I believe it still exists. The paperwork is just taking a bit of time to process. Or the system is down. That's what I keep hearing anyways. Seems like HR is in no rush to hire. I did manage to apply, interview, and get hired for a retail position at REI. Quite the opposite hiring experience compared to...we'll call it Job A. I've considered Job A a priority being that it's more in line with my background.
I have been spending my time exploring the area and volunteering at Khlasa Family Farms in Espanola, a larger town west of Chimayo. This past Sunday (day 11 of waiting to hear about Job A) we drove through the Rio Grande Gorge Recreation Area in near Pilar to hike La Vista Verde trial.
It's a 2 mile out and back trail. Easy terrain with subtle elevation changes. There are two lookout points; the one at the end is quite spectacular. A perfect spot for photography...and selfies. The trail is a combination of rocks, sand, and compacted soil. There a large boulder flanking the trail at a few points along the way. We happened to see 3 big horned sheep atop the mesa to the left on our way in. They were too small to capture photos. There were no trail markings, although none were needed. The trail was very easy to navigate.
The water of the Grande was not very high. End of May to June is when the water will be its highest and rapids the largest. There were plenty of folks out enjoying the water despite the lower water level. It was perfect conditions for tubing, rafting, and paddling.
We also stopped by One Straw Farm in Dixon, NM. They provide veggies, herbs, flowers and nursery starts for a variety of veggies. It's amazing what one operation is able to do with galvanized pipe and shade cloth. They had different varieties of basil, lettuce, marigolds, zinnias, and much more. As much as I'm looking forward to starting work, I have enjoyed my time exploring.
